This is one of those magical girl animes who gets transported to another world/dimesion.
In this one it is in the past, five hundred years to be exact.
Kagome is the reincarnation of Kikyo, a shinto priestess who guarded the shikon no tama-a pink jewel that can give demons great power and grant wishes-, now it is her duty to protect the jewel that came from inside her flesh when a monster came after her.
She frees the inu hanyo-dog half demon-Inuyasha to save her... but then he turns on her and it is only thanks to Kaede, Kikyo younger sister, that Kagome prevails by the use of a rosary to subdue him when Kagome says "Sit." And the shikon remains in good hands until...
Oops! Clumsy kagome broke the jewel! And now she and Inuyasha must travel together to collect the shards!
I won't say anymore, it may sound corny, but it is REALLY good. If you're curious go here:

That doesn't really say much, being the fact that Dragonball wasn't
that good. Unless you don't see much anime besides what's on Cartoon Network's Toonami, this anime should hardly be in your Top Ten.

So far Ive seen about half dubbed and half with subtitles and it really makes a difference. Its a good series but you get a much better feel for it when its in japanese and not with the crappy american voice actors.

I'm not a big fan of violence and fighting... but if they're gonna fight, I'm gonna watch (and wish I could join in!) and in Inuyasha it has it's fair share of violence. But for every moment of fighting, there is a moment of romance, or just plain comedy!
Being a romantic person (I can't help what I am, okay?) and a great lover of comedy, I loved this anime! Loved it, loved it!
Actually, I probably love it more than I should but, here's the story...
Last summer, a year ago that it, I was bored. My life was crap. I had nothing to do at night when it was too dark to go outside. I read books and soon grew bored again. Then I began to download some music on KaZaa (which is now dead) but I was looking at videos for a song, and something said AMV Inuyasha beside it. What is that? I thought, and downloaded it. Then I watched it, and there was Inuyasha, fighting.
I fell in love (because he's hot >x<)
Anyway, I began researching... then I bought DVDs of it on ebay, as they are currently unavailable in Ireland (they will be in two months though!) and I watched them and became an instant fan! I guess I was deprived of anime so long (I only watched YuGiOh and loved Japanese cartoons, as I called them!) that I went absolutely crazy!
Then I found out you could download Inuyasha on the web. So I did. Then I saw other cool sounding programs, so I downloaded them. Then I found out you could get manga, and asked at the book shop to order some. The next month, the 'manga revolution' started!
(I'm SURE I started it, really ! ^o^)
Then, I became so obsessed, my parents worried. And they still do! Ha!
Anyway, now that you're asleep, I'll just be off!

Yeah, I agree. This is a really good anime series. I never saw the subbed version, only the dubbed version, but it was very good. I saw most of the episodes that are currently available and I liked what I saw a lot. The only thing I don't like is that there's really only 1 main villain. But other than that, it really is amazing.

Inuyasha is alright. I only watched like 53 episodes, and though it isnt horrible, I dont get what the hype is all about. Definitely not one of the best animes out there imo. Kagome still kind of sucks, and Inuyasha wins his fights with luck, or by the villian just leaving. The story sounds better than it is really executed, and I dont really know why it isnt excellent. Words cant really describe why this show just doesnt have the magic that a good anime has. I mean, it has great characters and an interesting plot. But for some reason, I always found myself forced to keep watching, hoping that I would just "get it".

I like Inuyasha, but the characters are kind of weak and there is little character development. Kikyo just keeps coming back again and again; it really got boring after the third time. I was absolutely infuriated at the "ending," so I thought I would try reading the manga. The characters are drawn so differently! It may sound shallow, but that was kind of a turn-off for me. Inuyasha was the anime I started watching when Naruto became fillerized and Bleach didn't interest me (you have to admit, the first few episodes are pretty dull), thus it somehow earned a special place in my heart due to the fact that it managed to keep me interested. This made me decide that I wanted to purchase the whole series, complete with the mushy-mushy-goo-goo movies. Honestly, why do I spend my money so easily..

The movies honestly aren't that great. The first two are mushy, lovey-dovey movies (IMO, that is). I'd recommend watching the last two if you can; I personally think the third one is the best, but the fourth was pretty decent too.

Hehe, well Ive seen some of the third, and it was interesting can't say much about the others since i haven't seen or even had a glimpse of them.
In the end i still like the anime, but the ending wasn't great at all.
Thanks for the info sushicynic

It certainly was interesting! The ending was, BLAH. I expected more, but considering the manga continued after the anime, I guess a proper ending is out of question. I haven't read the manga, so I have no idea what went on afterward, but I did see the movies.
I must say though, I watched Ranma 1/2 right after Inuyasha and I kept expecting Ranma to say, "Kagome" instead of Akane, LOL. (The same guy did both voices)

Well, I'm sorry to say this, but I didn't feel entertained through any of the 160 odd episodes. I wonder why it became so popular. Of course, the story line is attractive, but they didn't manage to exploit it to the maximum. They keep on repeating. It seems like nothing but fillers. And then the end...
Of course there were some good moments, funny too, but they could've done sooo much more with this idea! It's a shame.
I would only give this a 3 out of 10
