Before i state my own opinion how do you guys feel about the death penalty

i'm neutral about it

i don't like it for many reasons. First of all, its unneccessary. as a first world nation, we are able to detain criminals without them being of any threat to the community. Second, its expensive, third, its not impartial, certain groups are far more likely to be given it than others. Fourth, it doesnt always administer a painless death. i mean look at what happened to tookie. (i won't go into detail about that, google 'tookie' to find out yourself)

id have to say yes becuase of all the sickos that face the death penelaty becuase they have killed for fun and joy but if the murder was an acident or unintentional then i would have to say no

They should kill 'em all, even for the slightest crime, governments these days are much to leanyant towards crimes, what are laws for if there are really no consequences (jail = free food. shelter & free sex)

i think it should be kept because of all the perverts out there and the killers who kill for the fun of it. thats just wrong they need more than just jail they need to be killed to show them what its like to feel what the others felt when the killers killed them.

I think that insted of the death penalty you should have to work a grimy job and all your income goes to the family that you hurt.

This is a complex issue. First off I would like to say that I do support the death penalty. However, I believe that it should only be applied in certain cases. Not everyone that kills should get the death penalty. However, those who commit premeditated murder I believe should receive the death penalty. (Killing in self-defense, on the battlefield, and otherwise not premeditated I believe are not crimes that should be punished by the death penalty)

I realize that there are those who oppose captial punishment from religious viewpoints (even Christians) based on the idea of forgiveness. That's fine. There's nothing wrong with forgiveness. Certainly we can forgive the murderer but that doesn't mean the murder shouldn't suffer punishment. Our parents forgive us when we disobey them but that doesn't mean they don't punish us. Forgiveness and punishment are not related.

The second argument made for/against capital punishment is whether it is a deterrent to crime. On that point I would say it is to a certain extent. Certainly ideological, deranged, malicious, and sometimes plain evil people will not be deterred by death penalty. However capital punishment does deter murder in many cases. In the end though whether it deters crime or not is relatively irrelevent since a person that commits premeditated murder needs to be punished. This is very much a legal matter.

against it... taking another life, god's creation, a human being just like you, is just pointless. i'd say leave them in a stranded island without any supplies but to live like baboons or something.

I believe our justice systems prioritys are a little skewed. A child molester will walk, and something of less importance, will be charged for life. I don't think we are in any shape to judge the death penalty fairly. In my own opinion I think it should be used spareingly.

I have met the same question where ever I go. And I still think that there should be no death pealty. Why? There si so many reasons for that. The most basic one is that we, human kind, don't have the rights to kill a human being, even if she/he has killed or/and murdered. We are no Gods.

I agree some people deserve to die after what they did. But i don't trust our justice system to decide who, and its not worth the risk if just a few innocent people die like that

i agree partially with Auriko, we are no gods so why are we, human kind, taking the lives of those who have murdered others?? then again, they are no gods either !!! i would say that the only people that should ever get the death penalty are those who kill several people, or attempted to kill someone that a country couldn't live with out. all in all, only those treachorus people should get the penalty.

In Canada we dont have the Death penalty. But I say It shouldn't be there no
matter how bad the crime is what do we accomplise by killing. We should stick to life in prison that way the crimal is force to see what he has done

Seeing the fact that the system used to judge whether a person is innocent or guilty is broken, the death penalty isn't the answer, but I'm also against life imprisionment where the convict is not paying for their crimes.

The way I see it, paying $32,000 for one inmate to remain in jail for a year is stupidity to show no results from, and even if the person isn't in for life, they come out 'rehabilited' and yet still not seen as viable assets to the society which done the rehabilitation.

I think it is time to implement what the Russians did with Siberia. I believe that our prison system should be a series of labor camps. There are roads that need to be fixed, farms that need to be tended, buildings that need to be built, and an infrastructure that need to be maintained. Work them for their entire time and when it is over, release them back into society and treat them as citizens who repaid their debt.

Escape won't be a problem if they understood that they will be murdered on sight without mercy or appeal if they attempt to escape their punishment.

I think that the death penalty is wrong is okay when the person that committed the crime is the person that committed the crime. It could get kind of disturbing when people who are innocent are convicted of a crime that leads them to the death penalty.

It is disturbing when the innocent are convicted. The rate of that happening currently is close to 30%, which means there is a chance that you fry an innocent man for a crime that either 'circumstantial evidence' or the word of the arresting officer is taken...and that is just wrong.

here's my opinion. the death penalty is a good idea, but only to a certain point. first, too many people are being killed when they didnt commit any crimes. second. the killing may have been in self defense. if there is no way the person is innocent, then kill them, but make it really painful. Like sawing off their groin. yeah then nobody would kill.

I guess it wouldn't be necessary if we could freeze people in carbonite or something, but us law abiding citizens have to teach killers a lesson some how, if punishments become too leniant people will do wahtever they please. Moderation is key, yo.

Its just not that simple. A lot of murders are commited by people that know their prey. Most people dont just randomly kill. Think about it. You are in love with a girl, you get married, and on your wedding day, she tells you to **** off and that she actually loves someone else. The guy is crushed and angry and kills her. Do you really think this guy was a hearless killer that deserves to die? I dont think so, he will probably never kill again and he really isnt a threat to society. A person like this does not deserve to die, but he also should be let go unpunished either.

A lot of crimes are circumstantial. A lot of murders are planned out of twisted emotions or mental problems. Treating these people while they are in jail would be a better idea. Helping them overcome what they have done, and to change them into a normal person.

Life in prison may be a little overkill for most people. I dont believe in the death penalty either. Nobody should really be the judge to decide life in prison or execution. It may sound liberal, but we dont have the right to take another's life, no matter what they did. Prison, for the most part, is mental torture. I think this is a good punishment for serious crimes, execution really isnt necessary.

If you are worried about paying the taxes to keep these people in prison for life, then you may want to look at what many other people are doing time for, and how long they are there. Drug offenders, for the most part, do more time than rapists and child molesters. Whats up with that? Drug dealers may indirectly harm somebody elses life, but it wasnt really intended to. The intent of drugs is to hook somebody up to have a good time. Making money is also a primary concern, and drug dealers do support drug habits. But this is a personal choice. Rape and child molestation is not voluntary, and usually produces mental struggle for the victim. Horrible crimes. In the US, we have the largest percentage of imprisonment out of anywhere else in the world. Land of the free my a**, lets get minor offenders out of jail and actually help them overcome their crime.

And another thing. When you are in prison, you are actually in hell. And when someone gets out of there he becomes monster (if we are talking about prisons for hard crimes). Instead of killing each other, you should try to help one another. Educate them, hell them deal with their demons, and then resocialize them.
It may be the easiest way to kill someone (but I don't honestly know how can that person that kills a prisoner sleep at night), but because of that way of thinking, those that committed crimes instead of becoming a someone with new found respect for life, they become animals. Okay. If you take someone that has killed a dozen people. and you say that there is no death penalty. 25 years later he is out killing again, oooh another 25 dead. WTF, how about this, ummm if you do the death penalty on this person, then instead of more victims there will be only one death that saves dozens of lives.

I don't think that you know law very well. Americans have strict law about this. You can get life imprisonment for killing one person, let alone 25 people.
And if someone kills 25 people no one is going to say he can be reformed. But enough with pointless taking of lives. Give him life imprisonment and be done with it.

I say that you have special prisons for people that have 3+ murders on their hands. These prisons would include an evil clown, a banana, some lube, a pineapple, Hitler, and 3 dollars. THEN NOBODY WOULD KILL MORE THAN TWO PEOPLE AHHAHAAHAHAHAH. Or, you know we could like give death penalty to 3+ people murder. Either way it works fine for me...

Like Jaro said, life imprisonment is just fine for that. Taking someone else's life is just unfair. Being punished for a dangerous crime is just fine. Doing time for a crime you commited, even if it is the rest of your life, is more moral than killing. I just think the death penalty gives the government more power. It gives them the decision to decide who lives and who dies. It is not up to anyone to make that decision.

hm....this is a pretty tough question to answer since there are so many reasons for it and against it and all of the are valid.

Personally though, I'm for it...partially. I don't think it's right to put someone to death if they killed someone in self defence or during war or even in a fit of rage because chances are, the person is not really a killer. The person who kills out of anger once in my oppinion should be able to serve his time in prison and hopefully be rehabilitated.

There are however, people who are just plain evil and will never feel regret over what they have done. They will never lose the desire to kill others, and the moment they get a chance to be near someone they are already planning how to kill them (I have studied some of the info on these people in criminology class).

I don't believe that it is right for tax payers to have to pay for a trully evil person to live out their entire life in prison where they have the right to constantly sue the government over stupid things like not having crunchy peanut butter when they want it (it really happened 0_0 and we as tax payers had to pay for it).

Now...I do think that there should be some kind of combo of drugs given before the lethal injection to make sure that the death is completely painless since it's cruel to make people suffer.

Anyway, IMHO it's worse to use the money of good people to keep a trully bad person alive when that same money could be used to help the families of innocent victims rebuild their lives.

What is the purpose of putting someone in prison for life without the possibility of parol? Why not just put 'em down like the rabid dog that he is? I think the death penalty has its place in the judicial system, I just think that it is hard to actually get to use based on the years of appeals and then everyone requesting a pardon. Then the pardon itself can be used as a means to look good in the communities eyes and be used as a ploy for re-election.

I think that if someone is found guilty and had a couple of appeals, then it should be that the sentence is carried out more readily.

Just ask your selves this: Could |I pull the trigger (or what ever) and go to bed at night knowing that you took someones life?

I don't like the idea of some1 choosing the time of ur death, or wen u do it and u find out later he/she innocent (bummer i hope u go 2 heaven) but 4 a crime like Child Molester or rape he should be Tortured then killed.
