I can see why bleach might be called bleach i.e. he is cleaning the world of hollows or sth, but in the anime they have made no attempt to explain why it is called Bleach. Anyone know why?

how about this... bleach is a substance that purges stains out of fabrics- you could say it purifies by taking out any imperfections or dyes out of the cloth

i think it is called bleach because its about ghosts and other spiritual stuff. ghosts used to be thought of as something like floating white sheets. since bleaching makes things white, like ghosts, the shows is called bleach. thats my theory.

Naming it after a Nirvana Album is cool, but it doesn't give good clarity into the persona of the series. When I first heard it, I just looked at it weird and thought it was some crazy anime/manga about laundry. Heck after seeing Hamtaro on TV, I wouldn't have been surprised if it was.

its simple, the author accidently spilled bleach on something and got inspired by it

I have been told that its called bleach because they use the word bleach to mean " To purify one's soul " and I think it is quite right considering shinigami send the souls to soul society

I think even if it was named something ridiculous, like Catfish Tango or something, it wouldn't change the substance of the series, and would still be as popular as it is. (Maybe even more o_o I mean, what kind of kick-a-- anime would be named Catfish Tango? Adds some allure to it )

ok ok... but its that something like :/ .... normally anime titles have something to do with the anime.. always... its the first case i see someone just put a random name in a anime just because he is a fan but then.. its not impossible
