First question: If and when you go off to college, are you going to use this computer, and what will be your major?
Second question: How long do you want the computer to last?
Third question: How important is gaming to you? Also, what kind of games do you want to play
Fourth question: How much are you willing to spend?
Fifth question: Do you have any preference for a brand ie. Apple, Dell, Hp, Sony, Fijitsu, Intel,AMD, Ati, Nvidea, etc?
Sixth question: what will you be primarily doing with the computer, ie high end graphics, just browsing the web and looking at anime, hardcore gamer, what? List all highend applications and games you plan yo run ie. Photoshop, Maya, Far Cry, Unreal Tourney, Half Life 2, etc

Once you answer those questions, ill tell you the right specs you need, and which brand i think you should get.

Oyea, can you build your own computer?

sry i guess, but yea im just telling the truth, i mean ive done price checks on how much the pc's ive built saved me vs. dell, alienware, etc, and in the highend, my custom builds are always cheaper, now when you get down in the low end, then thats where dell can beat my prices by around 50-100 dollars, and thats only cause the have rather desirable discounts of the parts that they get, where as i can only get it for oem prices without discounts. and for mac, the way i justifiy the premium is A. theres seldom any downtime, no need to buy any antivirus, spyware, no need to hire a technician like me< the going rate for spyware removal alone is 129 dollars, also theres the ilife suit that gets bundled, and just the appeal, ive had lots of people say damn, thats a nice a$$ laptop you got there.

if u want to specify in certain things and cut off others and dont have to pay for them, put together ur own.. mine is really state of the art, and only cost $1500, but u can still put together a really nice one for less than $500! happy.gif

*agrees with bling..........just need the technical knowhow, and the ability to fix the puter when it breaks*

Also of note, with in 6 months, your pc will have droped in price by atleast 300 dollars, and by 1 year it'll be worth half the price you originally paid, the only three things this dosent go for is A. you absolute bleeding edge gaming computer< the depreciate even more and quicker than your low to mid range computer, Apple desktops, they usually take a year to a year and a half before you loose 300-500, and your server/workstation class computers, which like apple take a bit longer to depreciate.

wlel id say putting together your own computer like buying parts and assembling them is better.. you get to choose what you like and what you prefer.. smile.gif

I'll give you a few different spec lists that fit those, and also links to my prefered vendors tomorrow *ish sleepy* another question how long can you wait for the new computer and also give some information on what applications/games you'll be playing, like "im going to be primarily playing rpgs, like world of warcraft, etc" and narrow down your price range to something you know you really wanna spend, cause like i can give you a computer that cost 1800, but it would be overkill in some cases. You also have to factor in software cost and technical costs, which usually adds another 200-300 to the pricetag.

......now i go sleep.

Well, Considering what you will be doing on it, I'd get 2 150gig Hard Drives, Any ATi card above the 9200 series and a decent amount of RAM around 1 gig or so. And for processing all you need is something above a 2

You can get the hard drives for cheap, around 50 each
The card about 60
And the Motherboard around 120

Rough estimate though

2guns.gif 2guns.gif 2guns.gif

And may I add, If I were you I'd get the Gayest looking case possible, one with tons of Purple lights on it 2guns.gif 2guns.gif 2guns.gif

okie dokie, this is gonna be your highend, it has a dual core processor which means theres 2 processors, so what that will do, is lets say you wanna convert video, you can render 2x the amount of video that with your normal single processor pc, it also will benefit you in gaming and everything, cause like now, a game can occupy a single core, while your running an antivirus on the 2nd core.

now for the explanation of what all this gets you. I already explained about the cpu, it has 2 cores, thus allows you to do more stuff and all that. I choose 1024mbs or 1gig of ram for you because, its pretty much whats needed nw adays for a good gaming pc, and in 2-3 years that will become the standard for your average pc. You might have noticed that there are not one, but 2 video cards, what this does is that it helps improve your gamerate performace, alot of the new highend shooters will run alot faster and smoother on a dual video card, this is known as SLI, also i choose Nvidia over Ati, cause right now there the leader in SLI, plus when you get into 3d modeling, your programs are going to like the Nvidia cards better, the have better opengl preformace that ATI. Now for harddrives, your first and primary harddrive is a Maxtor Raptor 10k 74GB SATA drive, this harddrive your going to only want to put A. your operating system and B. your highend First person shooters. The reason for this is because of the preformace, Raptor Harddrives are the fastest drives avilable to consumers, and the speed increase will allow your operating system, and games to access the files they need a heck of alot faster. Your second harddrive is your primary media drive, store all your anime on here, and your thrid drive can be a backup and secondary media drive. The Monitor i choose is one of the best preforming with a 4ms responce time, which means absolutely no ghosting, its also has a rather generous amount of screen space, 19" viewable.

i shall post the lower end configs later on the day happy.gif

oyea and listen to satan about the case stuff, get the gayest case as possible, with pink and purple leds, it'll make you look liek sooooo cool lol/ wheelchair.gif

see thats why i never recommend brands like dell, there absolute crap, and service ha!!!!! Im indian, and hell if i can understand the indian techs that i have to deal with sometime, and even the government support is rather iffy, like the tech admins at my school hate dealing with dells phone service. The only major brand that i endorse is apple, and theres a good reason for that happy.gif

wheres he going to get his parts, cause like if he goes to compusa, bestbuy or any place like that, he is definitely going to get ripped, cause they usually add a 20-50% markup on the oem price. Plus they really dont have very many parts readily available. The one and only really really important suggestion i have thou, is wait til next year, and get your self a mac thats running on intel processors, the reason for this is you'll have the dependability, wont have to worry about viruses, or any of that crap, and if for some reason you can do virtulization of the game, then you could install windows Xp on a separate partition and run it from there, and the windows xp side gets a virus, you can just erase everything since all your important crap will be on the mac side. Also you get the bloody good looking apple industrial desing happy.gif

I don't know. But he's a professional. so it should be fine.

One other thing, and this goes for everyone, when Microsoft Windows Longhorn comes out, you most likely will need a new monitor. What MS is doing in longhorn[next gen of windows] is making it so that the monitor needs HDCP[High Def Content Protection], HDCP makes it harder to pirate movies and all that, and just not good for the consumers, now the problem with that is that 99.99% of all computer monitors dont support HDCP, and the few that do support it are the ultra expensive ones. Also another fun tidbit of Longhorn is Trusted Computer Initiative aka Palladium........you could do a huge write up on what palladium does, but you wont. What you will say is that MS will beable to lock down your computer if lets say your download illegal programs or songs or do anything "questionable" This is very bad, since you yes longer have control over your computer really, MS does. Palladium is on a hardware level so it would be very very hard to crack, infact both AMD and Intel are in the consortium to make this a reality, so they only way you would beable to by pass it is to use a operating system that isnt windows like a *nix based OS like Apple OSX, Linux, BSD, etc. All the BS that microsoft is promoting about how pallidum is good is will wrong, its just another way for them to lock you into there operating system, and all the "innovations" that are supposed to come from Longhorn, has been pretty much droped, its just biscally a prettier new skin that they put on XP and called it a new Operating System, and also all the crap that was supposed to be in Longhorn is already in Apple OSX:Tiger, or in Linux.

ETA for longhorn: mid 2007 but you'm pretty sure there going to delay it again, you mean the thing was supposed to be out already.

ETA for the next gen operating system from Apple: late 2006, early 2007

Eta for next upgrade in Linux core: probably next year.
