I personally wasn't impressed by Shikamaru at all... I mean anyone with half a brain could have thought up a simple strategy like that and people say that Naruto's are simple? He did a used a simple distraction last episode and then did a little switcharoo ang that's impressive?.... Shikamaru would have been dead and would have been had Hidan and Kakuzu not been called back by akatsuki and if the reinforcements hadn't come as early... He got lucky...

Although only a person with an IQ close to that could truly understand what their perception is like so I don't really fault kishi... and what was the point of having Sakura there? I don't understand the need to have her appear one she wasn't featured in that fight in the manga at all.... Damn fan service.. it's pathetic...

I'm still far more interested in Naruto... the guy has had **** all throughout shippuuden (and it's only started to pick up in the manga)... The slitted blue eyes was a nice effect and the rasen shuiken is a pretty decent jutsu, only being 50% complete... I guess the reason it took him so long to form it is much the same reason as Hidan and Kakuzu seemed to wait for Kakashi and Team 10 to formulate a plan and regroup.. the anime needs time for dialogue and flash backs...

come on give shikamaru a little more credit than that, he has matured a lot since we last saw him( pre time skip) what i meant was that he is awesome compared to what he used to be

The only good part about 87 was the explosion. The rest was slow and poorly drawn/animated. Oh and the rasenshuruken it was pro

86 was pretty decent everytihng just looks SO bad compared to the art/animation of ep 85

About shikamaru ^ I dont mind shikamaru hes pretty smart, Not just cuz he figured out the blood trick, but to set up the whole trap before hand. Thats pretty cool

Next episode looks pretty cool, I hope they dont end the arc sloppily.

Ya, man, give the guy some credit. He was battling someone who had killed his Teacher(more like a father) to him. Some people would attack with anger and emotion but the point of Shikarumu as a character is to show the audience(fans of naruto) that you have to think rationally, don't let emotions cloud your judgement and always have a plan. Good advice on life I think lol.

Either way, I wish a better character would have fought instead of Shikamaru, like Gaara. I wanted to see some fancy jutsu's man.

i dont think gaara is that cool and i would way rather watch naruto or kakashi fight him

As far as I remember, sakura WAS present on the manga, just not the additional flashback about the will of fire, but the entire team showed up...

and Shikamaru predicted many possibilities,this was just preparations for the most probable outcome, you got to give the man some credit...

I liked the episode in general....
too bad the next arc is sasucentric....BAHHHHH...

I thought the episode was pretty good but I did expect more out of it though. I thought Shikamaru was going to blow each other up when all else fails but it seems everything went according to plan. And someone did spoil the surprise about the pill device last episode someone said that it was Kakuzu's blood but it wasn't revealed until now.... damn you magna readers.

I thought it was cool how they changed Naruto eyes, they should do that everytime he's in battle.

As for Shikamaru he still sucks at taijustu and ninjustu only having one technique, he's only good at planning **** out but that only works in a four man cell, he's pretty much useless on a one on one battle. I still think its a joke to think he would be a good Hokage the guy is useless overall. Element of surprise is the only reason why he's still standing. I still think Neji is far better then he is.

Dude again whats the point of bringing Choji and Ino along they do nothing they should try a new career like a janitor because thats all they good for.

And WTF why is Gaykashi still standing dude should have ran out of chakra a long time ago but even though Kakuzu still owned Gaykashi because he got his a** kicked pretty bad all Gaykashi was able to do is buy some time for backup to arrive other wise he would be six feet under, the dude sucks lucky they have someone better like Yamato.

I'm going to miss Hidan with all his crap talking he was fun to watch everything that came out of his mouth was just hilarious I hope they replace with someone with the same personality because it just won't be the same without Hidan.

As usual they end it when the best part is about to happen, Naruto has become the shinobi we all expected him to be he looks fierce and strong and far more skillful then he was before he's ready to do some damage and just crush everything that gets in his way pretty soon he'll be ready to take on Sasuke again.

I thought it was pretty awesome. It's nice to see Naruto improving because a lot of the time they make out like he's crap.

Shikamaru's awesome, too. You can't deny that his plan was well formulated and thought-out. Being able to plan it all, then the skill to see it through. He's fun to watch.

I agree about Ino and Chouji just being a waste of space, though. You'd have thought they'd get a bit better after the time skip, but really... they haven't. =/

@ tumble : you are actually downplaying what he has done. from the start of capturing them with the chakra blades and the blood capsules, he has done pretty well. as for the going near to punch and capture hidan, that was cos hidan was pure dumb and he always expects moves too late, so shikamaru captured him by always being one step ahead and changing tactics. you gotta give him credit for that.

high IQ doesnt mean he needs highly ingenious plans, only highly effective ones. up to now minus the unexpected parts he has done pretty well already against both akatsuki.

@ silver blade: hokage requires more brains than power seriously, you need to manage a freaking country, leave it to the anbu for defence. with your argument, it seems that all kings and presidents need to be black belt in karate to be what they are. its not. its the leadership qualities.

well in the manga section they are all arguing about how weak neji is by not using ninjutsu and genjutsu and lousy in long range, but i think hes just a well rounder but definitely not as smart as shikamaru.

choji and ino were useless, yeah that is quite agreeable.

The key to killing Hidan was the Blood of Kakuzu which Gaykashi got for him....no way could Shikamaru do that on his own. Shikamaru took down Hidan with team effort you can't give all the credit to Shikamaru.

Yeah and it was smart of Shikamaru to bring Choji and Ino what good that did him....the dude is a loser if it wasn't for Gaykashi the team would have been wiped out a long time go.

And Gaykashi stilled got owned by Kakuzu so how does that make him good??

They key to kill hidan wasn't the blood of kakuzu. The blood only helped with KAKASHIs battle.

And Kakuzu is a pro akatsuki, with 5 Hearts, which is just like killing 5 people.

Kakashi was good enough to manage to kill him once with the addition of fighting hidan as well.

And he basically SOLOED the duo. If you think about it kakuzu vs kakashi was basically a 5 v 1 plus hidan

He had to actually fight all those random monsters and the 2 akatsuki.

well you are contradicting yourself totally in this post. first you say kakashi was essential to getting the blood and that without him the team would be wiped out.

then u mention that he still got owned = hes not good

you dont understand, most of the ninja WOULD get owned, he has 5 freaking hearts. kakashi has already done very well by taking out 1 heart by reading his seals, and also surviving against that many shots of kakuzu. remember he defused the lightning with his raikiri and saved the team. if it was yamato he would be screwed 10 times over with his weakness to his 2 elements. neji, your favourite character would even get owned more shittily since he doesnt use ninjutsu and his opponent has all high level ninjutsu and i dont think i need to elaborate further.

its like saying sandaime was weak since he got owned by orochimaru who was owned by jiraiya + tsunade who were all his students. NO LINK! get it? kakashi has already done very well against such a high level high chakra guy, cut him some slack already

Let's be honest, Kakashi is a great ninja, one of the top in the Fire Village....


It's also nice to see Naruto actually start thinking. He is just not jumping into battles, he ACTUALLY PLANS. I for one was tired of watching naruto in some of the episodes because he attacked with no plan, just random and he always used the same move(shadow clone).

But at least now he is starting to mix it up a bit and he is becoming quite good.

Still I am hoping to see Gaara[the best], Neji or Rock Lee battle some Akatsuki, I want to see how they have improved.

For those of you that don't know, Silver Blade knows how good Kakashi is, but he's a Gai fanboy and just loves to throw ridiculous statements out there just to get reactions out of people. Don't rise to it. If we ignore him, he might eventually go away *crosses fingers hopefully*

Anyone underestimating Shikamaru is way off. The guy is just cold, planning that far ahead of time, keeping his cool about him despite the fact that he was fighting for revenge. There's a reason he was the 1st to become chuunin, and the only ninja of his age group to be asked to be the Feudal Lord's guard (at least in the anime). He's the best leader out of all the teenage-Konoha ninja.

And he just defeated a S-rank Akatsuki member that no one (not even 2 of the 12 Ninja Guardians) could defeat. If that doesn't count, I don't know what does.


Oh, and I agree with pwnage - the animation in 86 was sick, 87 was good only in parts. To me 86 was one of the best overall eps in the entire series, just nonstop action and great animation.

chouji and ino are good if they are in the right situation that was not there situation the only reason they were there is because it was their teacher too i wouldnt laze around on my a** if my teacher died i'd go help to, they were there for a reason and thats what it was you cant just not have them there that would make them very gay characters i would hate them for that

lol I thought the funniest part was when Kakuzu pinned Kakashi to the ground. Ino pointed and screamed and Chouji went "Kakashi-sensei!" As if Kakashi didn't realize he'd just been pinned to the ground. And after screaming, Ino and Chouji continued to stand and watch. Seriously, make an attempt to fight or just leave.

At least Chouji did try to step up later. Against a non-S-rank ninja, that attack might have actually worked.

btw i think everyone here don't understand what kind of ninja ino is, she is a medical ninja so if anyone remembers what tsunade said to sakura when she was teaching her she said that a medical ninja should avoid fighting at all cost because if she got injured who is going to heal the team and since she is in a 4 man team she should avoid fighting even more and don't forget that she said she isn't good at tijutsu that's why she became a medical ninja.
as for choji i thought his move in the episode was actually good.

Shikamaru would have been dead if he didn't have the blood and Gaykashi would be dead too. The Blood was the surprise attack it made Hidan put down his guard assuming it was over so Shikamaru can finish him off. But dude he has no taijustu and only uses one ninjustu technique thats pretty lame, like I said Shikamaru is useless on his own he needs a team.

If Yamato was to fight Kakuzu no doubt Yamato would have a better chance. Look i'm not saying Gaykashi sucks has much as some other shinobi's but he ain't that good either.

Van22 makes a good point. I totally forgot that medical ninja like Ino are actually instructed to hang back in battle, so they don't get injured.

The Blood gave shikamaru extra time to do another shadow bind after he already used it to lead him in the woods, and second it dropped Hidan's Guard down so Shikamaru can do whatever attack he wanted, the blood saved his life.

ACTUALLY, Kakashi became a Jounin at 11 Without the sharingan. Which means hes Already Amazingly Naturally talented. Neji may have learnt a jutsu by himself, But he didnt create it (They Spinny thing). Learning Jutsus by urself dosnt make you a better ninja in battle. You just learn fast.

Hell, Naruto learned kage bunshin by himself. Shud he become a jounin for doing so?

Kakashi created Chidori, which is even more impressive than Neji learning how to use an already existing jutsu on his own. Second of all, Itachi has stated a few times that he's impressed how well Kakashi can use Sharingan without being an Uchiha - which implies that no ordinary ninja could grab a Sharingan and start copying jutsu. Itachi doesn't give props often.

By the way, your hero, Rock Lee? Yeah, all his moves are copied from Gai. They're just basic taijutsu moves. Does that make him that much inferior to Neji or Naruto? Not in my opinion. I think Rock is an amazing ninja. Just because he learned his moves from a "master" like Gai doesn't make him any worse a ninja. Jiraiya "learning" Rasengan from the 4th doesn't exactly make him a chump. The 3rd learning the forbidden sealing technique from the 4th doesn't mean the 3rd is not a genius.

Naruto can agree that Kakashi is great, no debate, now the greatest? That is subjective to each person.

The greatest part for me was when Kakashi turned around and saw the fourth in Naruto, and the music when that happens really makes it much better.

ps: you all forgot what Kakashi obtained other than the regular sharingan in the last episodes as prove that he is great, mangekyou sharingan without being an Uchiha or killing anyone? Genius.

as for the episode finnaly got round to watching it was pretty freakin sweet kakashi did well and the changes to shikamaru and hidan's confruntation was only a little less cool (in the manga he start's smoking when asuma dies, thats where the smoke that get's in his eyes comes from. and lights up in front of hidan explains that he had him piped from the second he entered the woods (pretty much the same as the bit he's trying to light the lighter in the anime) and then flicks the stub -about half smoked- to explode the hell outa hidan.) but i supose it wouldnt do to advertise smoking as cool to little kids

Why would I stop just because you guys are in love with Gaykashi so much that you guys consider him the best shinobi ever. I understand everyone has their own strengthens and weaknesses but you need to understand that not everyone will like Gaykashi because everyone is different and I for one am not fond of Gaykashi as many of you already know, so I need to point out his weaknesses because he's not as great as you think he is.

Back to the episode from what I saw is Gaykashi getting punked and getting his a** kicked by Kakuzu infact Gaykashi would have died if Naruto or Yamato hadn't showed up. I don't know what you guys saw.

But it would be great to see more of Rock lee and Neji in these episodes.

Sometimes you guys take things too seriously.. some of those comments were amusing and interesting, I can't wait until the next episode.

I have absolutely no problem with that. I think it's great that people have different opinions, and that's why this is a "discussion" thread. Pointing out weaknesses is fine by everyone, it's the immature name-calling ("Shikamaru is a loser," "Gaykashi," etc) that gets on people's nerves. But if you want civil discussion, that's great, I don't think anyone has a problem with that.

Glad that's over with. Back to the discussion....


Here's one thing I was thinking about - Is there any regular jounin ninja (not Sannin or Hokage level) that could beat Kakuzu? Kakashi is just about the most versatile 'regular' ninja, in the sense he can use tons of ninjutsu from many different elements. So theoretically he should stand the best chance against Kakuzu. But clearly Kakuzu is stronger. So is there any jounin left out there that could beat Kakuzu?

Here's 2 to consider: Gai and Gaara (yes, Gaara's a kage, but not on the level of the first 4 hokages)

-Gaara's sand might give him the best shot here, in that he can protect himself against all of Kakuzu's attacks. But Kakuzu's Iron Skin protects him against Gaara's attacks, and Gaara's attacks use up too much chakra. I'd give the slight edge to Kakuzu.

-Gai doesn't use ninjutsu so doesn't have to worry about elemental weaknesses. But as amazing as his taijutsu is, is he really fast enough to dodge all of Kakuzu's attacks? Kakuzu at full strength can send 5 attacks, I can't see Gai evading all of those. When Gai opens his gates, it's all over - except for one thing...if Kakuzu's Iron Skin can withstand Gai's intense taijutsu, then Gai would be spent and Kakuzu would win. We don't know enough, because we don't know how strong the Iron Skin is.

-Yamato's another possibility but we just don't know quite enough about him, in my opinion. We also don't know how wood will respond to all the elemental attacks. Not enough info in my opinion.

Long post, but those were just some things I was thinking about. It'd be interesting to see what other people think about those matchups.

To ad my humble opinion: It was a pretty decent episode, some really nice animated action, some obligatory flashbacks and some stupid blabering mostly from Hidan and Shika.

It was fun, but not as fun as it promises on the next ep and next super-cool arc.

Well we'll just have to wait and see what happend and how it happens.
