Is it just me or is rock losing thunder. It seems like I got to tune in on VH1 80's just to catch a decent video. Will there be a new nirvana or black sabbath in the near future?Or will I be listening to metal from the 70s-80s and alternative in 90s until I become an adult?
What do u guys think
zeriah
I agree. Rock seems to have been replaced by emo during the last 8 years. thankfully emo seems to be dieing, however rock from getting b!tch slapped so hard for the last 8 years has turned into completely pussieness. Most people consider stuff like the Kaiser Chefs rock now, it's pretty sad sad.gif

Best to just get into metal and call it a day.
roclee4life
I hear ya,but I just wish some band will just break expectations and make me feel like I did the first time I heard Sabbath.Gess thats just to much to ask

Perhaps in USA is much like Zeriah said. In Europe things are different though ohmy.gif

rock's still out there its just not as main stream anymore i couldn't name a band (certainly not one with a video) but trust me go looking and you will find (for example the other day i was browsing the net and guess what i found? a punk cover of 1000 miles by that nora lass lol was pretty gud actually shame the rest of their stuff kinda stunk

on the bright side theres a few rock bands left floating around and while some (foofighter) aren't as rocky anymore (not that they where ever rock extream) there's the kings of leon there quit rocky right?

point being great's like sabuth don't come along everyday but theres still stuff out there, ps how is nivarna rock like at least half their stuf f is emo type what ever u call what coldplay does?
roclee4life
Nirvana is alternative rock(specifically grunge)and I know the great bands dont come to often. But there were alot more back then. And I think your right, maybe u got to just look a little harder to find a new decent band.
zeriah
There are nowhere near as many rock bands around as there used to be. It's still alive yes, but it's in the underground, Almost as much as metal is.

Also Kings of leon are emo turned pop haha

Like I kinda said before, it really depends where you live. In Scandinavia traditional rock/metal >>>>>>> everything else except adult contemporary pop. Extreme metal charts better than rap here. In Australia is almost the same, I dunno why Zeriah is so pessimistic XD

Chill my friend: http://finnishcharts.com/archiv.asp?sparte...8&todo=show
zeriah
What? Our charts are pretty much identicle copies of the US. Real metal is completely underground. I know all of one guy who is into real metal. Metalcore is semi popular among teens but that's it. Well there's a bit of Indie rock but I don't even consider that rock most of the time.

But yeah it's cool that it's not like that in Europe. But all English speaking western countries have like the same charts =/

Or if not that the same style of music in the top 10.

It happens =/ Before Sabbath and Kurt Cobane or Hendrix, people were going through our times =/ It just takes awhile for prodigies to rise up and get famous. But you have to take in what Zeriah said, most prodigies barely get recognition... I bet if I said Buckethead right now, you will probably be confused on who the **** I'm saying (sorry but you seem the type... I could be wrong and once again I'm sorry ^^) So go to underground.

Though you can't beat the 80's. Honestly, these were the GREATEST for music of ALL kinds. Rap, Punk, Metal, Rock. It was amazing and it took millions of years to reach a point like that... and unfortunately, a time like that won't probably happen till after our time =/
roclee4life
Noooo! life is cruel im gonna be dead before I get to see a new great band T-T

So why DragonForce, Opeth, Trivium and In Flames debuted in the top 10 while Lil Wayne barely scratched the top 50 this year?
roclee4life
It makes me happy to see Lil wayne drop in the charts tongue.gif
zeriah
Haxx those bands are about as mainstream as you can get. Because of guitar hero Dragonforce are considered godlike by the general population. In Flames is the same as Disturbed now, Opeth is prog and Trivium is Thrash. Also I have never heard any of those bands on Radio or Television except on special metal blocs. Also many of those bands would have ended up pretty close to that on the US charts too.

Here's our chart now http://www.aria.com.au/pages/documents/ech.../chart_aria.pdf . The only rock bands on their now are (you guessed it) 80's BANDS! The rest is all pop =/

I see your point... but still is better than in UK or USA...
zeriah
Only slightly. Man I wish I lived where you live. Real Death metal actually making it into the high charts is freaking amazing. Being able to drive in the car and putting the radio on and actually hearing a song a like ohmy.gif (what i wouldn't give for a single metal station! sad.gif )

Yes, extreme metal somewhat managed to get very well known here...
Juni44ever
Yes, Rock is dying as we speak. That's why I am buying as much rock CD's as I can so my future children will get to know what Rock is like biggrin.gif
sindon007
main stream rock is dying, most **** today is all pop-rock and emo and **** gross, i hate today's music theirs only a hand full of awesome rock bands today.
Ninja Goddess
I don't think genres as big as rock or rap really ever die, they just change decade after decade into new multi subgenres that people used to previous kinds of rock dislike so they term it as a "death". It's always reinventing itself.
Jing the bandit king
rock is dying off has been for a while now =/
getting replaced by modern music, most of which sucks... if were not for techno, metal, J-rock, and J-pop I think I'd be an indescribably sad person, well aside from anime and girls.

You are soo ******* right, all the rock stations have music from the ******* 80's. I can't even here Papa Roach on the ******* radio cause they don't play em' anymore. Right now all that senseless Rap is bullshit. When will they bring us Metal stations?

Well the main reason is that a metal-radiostation wouldnt bring as much money as if you started a mainstream musicstation. Nowadays there iare more rap/hiphop/rnb on MTV than Rock/metal

True, but in a lot of places in Europe and America there are Metal radio stations. Europe because metal can easily be as popular (if not more so) than hip-hop, rap and even pop. America has some because there are a sh!t ton of radio stations and there are soooooo many mainstream radio stations that there is room for some metal stations. This is because it is much cheaper to use metal songs because they aren't anywhere near as many people listening, so little local indie stations often make it.

But places like Asia and Oceania have no such luck for the reason you listen above. It sucks...

That is true Japan has some awesome Metal. Like the band Dir En Grey for instance. J-Pop is popular but J-Rock out-dose it.
