Racial background = Malay/Chinese/Portugese
However I was born and raised here in Australia so I am quite the Aussie. Love to do your sterotypical things. Beach, Beer, Barbies, Cricket (we lost in the grand final last year

and even nicer of you to narrow it down
it's not like Asia covers about 30% of the Earth's total land area and contains an approximately 60% of the world's current human population... No... not at all.
So lets just guess...
Chinese or Korean (south)
Then again you could have tricked us and maybe you're Bangladesh, Romanian or Armenian
But then again you could be mixed... so many to choose from...
ps. Hope you know that no offence was intended... well maybe a little

That would be a yes. The skin color of asians is not black, but definitely has a yellowish tone to it that is quite distinguishable. Although there are other diferent hues of skin that seem green, and others that are pinkish. Although if im not mistaken, there are two different types of melanin that give us skin color, and the unique comnination of each gives us our own specific color.

i guess what you say can have truth...
But you do know the vastness of Asia? (i mentioned it in an earlier post)
When you talk about Asians you need to be more specific.. It's a very vast region, and i believe that you are narrowing it down to the stereotypical meaning of the word that is used in most places of the world. The term "asian" used in places such as Australia and America encompasses only those who are from an Eastern Asian background. However in places such as London, the Eastern Asians are commonly referred to as "Orientals".
In truth you are forgetting about 2/3 or more of the countries that are included in Asia.
Central Asia - Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, etc
East Asia - China, Japan, Korea, etc
North Asia - Russia
South Eastern Asia - Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Vietnam, etc.
South Asia - Bangladesh, Iran, India, Afganistan, etc.
Western Asia - Turkey, Israel, Lebanon, Iraq, etc
So my main point is you can't determine Asian as yellow skin. Unless you are talking about the stereotyped meaning.

And what do you know, probably upwards of 90% of the ethnicities you named have a yellowish color to their skin, except for maybe India. The yellow hue is definitely quite different from the browner "black" pigment. And even if you are speaking stereotypically, they do come from something, eh? It seems like skin color is an extremely touchy subject with peoeple, they just cant seem to get over it.
Im not just blindly stereotyping, I am generalizing. Please dont mistake this for ignorance.

lol, I thought it was a pretty funny assumption also. Racial issues are such a controversial thing that I just couldnt help myself. Is it allowed to stereotype a group of people based on 20% of the group in question? 50%? 95%? When does it come a time that we can make assumptions based on past observations?

But if everyone is different, even if we knew 99% of a group of 100 people we couldnt judge what that last one would be like. So if the majority of people from a certain race of people acted a certain way, I could judge them based on race alone?
Yoshichu
Oct 11 2007, 07:16 PM
only in that community though,
so lets say if u move,
u cant start thinking the same way about that race like when u was living where u was living before u moved.
lol stereotyping is easy, but its a wrong way to think about people like that though.............
all i got to say is that... nvm i have nothing to say
im a hypocrite like that.
once a person pisses me off, i would think that the whole race is the same thing until someone from that race changes my idea about them lol
eternalmetal

Stereotypes are just assumptions based on past observations. They are effective based on probability really. I can take a really generalized stereotype and say it is right 95% of the time. Then I can take a more specific stereotype, and by proper observation, be right 70% of the time. I am not saying that stereotypes are always right or always wrong, but im saying that a good stereotype can be specific, yet accurate enough to be a logical assumption. This is how the human mind works and makes its own reality. Wisdom comes from experience and the ability to predict outcomes.
On to my conclusion, stereotypes, including those of race, are alright. Dont think somebody is racist if they take one look at a person and make an assumption. Not all racial stereotypes are based on skin color alone. I would say that my personal stereotypes come from a variety of things, including skin color, clothing, disposition, area I see person, what the people look like around him/her, etc. Im not just talking about a black guy in extra baggy clothes hanging out in front of a liquor store with 5 other guys smoking a cigarette (it could also be a Newport or another form of menthol cigarette, but I wont go there). I make assumptions about everyone I meet or see, and when those people fit into a category that I put them in, it just strenghtens the data for said stereotype.
Dont think im racist or I will personally kill you.
