I think, before I post, that it's important for all writters of poetry and the like to recall 2 specific aspects of reading and writting poetry. These are often inherrent, but bear repeating.

Firstly, that when reading a poem, the 'speaker' in the poem isn't always te person who wrote it, as is the case in this one.
Secondly, writting poetry often seems, nowadays among young writters, focused inwardly to a first person account, which can indeed have meaning, but I hope that all those of you who seek expression also look beyond yourselves, study the world, and tinker with technique and style.

This poem has no particular title:

I am not free
I did not choose
to be free,
for if I was enslaved
or led along,
I would be happy
and do no wrong.
But I am enslaved
to myself;
I must account for
mind and health.
I am not free until I die
but it'll be the same
as if alive.

I totally agree with you on everything you said.Even I (when i started out writing) used first person only, but because of that i had unconsciously inherited the basics to understand other styles easier but as well as appreciate them with a better sense of understanding.

Also i encourage everyone to write poetry. Even if you don't think it's good when you finished, i bet you will feel better in some sense of way. From either getting something of your shoulders or knowing you somewhat understand the world a little better. It also helps with creativity and opens up your mind to the fascinating world of imagination (i know that sounded corny but it's true).

Oh and one more note (i know im rambling) writers of any kind, dont force yourself to write something. It shows in your work if you didnt want to do it and if you try to force an emotion into the literature it just wont be their. Trust me i know from experience, so just go with the flow and dont worry if you cant think of a idea. It will soon come to you, sometimes in strange ways.

Ha, unless you wanna write in closed form or a certain style...than calculations are way better than flow sometimes.

But thanks nonetheless.
