When you say avi I assume you mean, .avi episode files you have downloaded from this web site or others.

Your problem is you are probably missing 'codecs' which are files that are needed to run .avi files.

Download that and after you install the program there, try to run the .avi files again, they should work.

Or you could get VLC media player, which for me is one of the best media players around
