Has anyone seen any of his movies - [Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Lady Vengeance.. +] - ? I think from all the Asian horror movies I've seen [a fair amount], his movies are always the most disturbing/depressing ones. I personally wouldn't recommend Oldboy, but SFMV is good, albeit ridiculously 'effed up.

Anyways, discuss. What's the most disturbing Asian horror flick you've seen? Any recommendations?

For me, I would suggest watching Janghwa, Hongryeon [A Tale of Two Sisters], a great Korean horror/drama.

Oldboy is a masterpiece although it does get pretty violent and the climax is very disturbing. However the climax is the most brilliant part of the picture and giving it away would ruin the movie. This also features one of my most favourite villains in a movie. And the direction is brilliant. Chan-wook manages to make a 5-minute (about) long, single shot fight scene where the protagonist has to fight off about about thirty men with nothing but a claw-hammer.
That being said, Oldboy is one of my most favourite movies and it deserves viewing.

Oldboy must be the most disturbing Asian movie I've seen but the most disturbing movie I've seen (or partly-seen) is Salo and the 120 days of Sodom. It is one freaky movie and i have no idea how they even got the nerve to make such a movie seeing as the writer of the book it is based on gives his name to the term 'Sadism'.
