Just looking through this section of the forum for the first time, and noticed there's no thread about CB.

Possibly the coolest anime ever made, and it defined neo anime itself.

If you haven't watched it - then watch it.
noodleplugerine
Dear lord, are you really trying to say that nobody has seen Cowboy Bebop?
DaTConDoR
Its good, one of my favorites.

It would be the greatest anime ever if all the episodes were like, Ballad of Fallen Angels, Jupiter Jazz, and the Last two, I don't remember the names.
noodleplugerine
Also has one of the greatest soundtracks ever.
eternalmetal
What is neo anime?

I seem to be all alone here, but I never understood the hype behind this anime. I never found it to be that interesting, and I didnt even consider the main character (I forget his name) cool. I didnt even finish it, which is kind of rare for me. The story wasnt interesting or gripping, and it didnt seem like he had much of a goal that he wanted to accomplish.

Maybe if I were to see it now (instead of earlier in my anime watching days, when I thought that I only liked fighting animes with strong japanese culture influences) I would have enjoyed it more, but it wouldnt rate at the top of my list.

I think when it is compared to Trigun (and loses), I kind of feel bad for Trigun. Trigun was so much better, had a cool storyline and an awesome main character. Vash was one of the most interesting and funny main characters. This anime was very tastefully done, moreso than CB.
noodleplugerine
It's actually extremely similar to Trigun in many ways.

They both have almost no storyline untill the last 3 episodes, other than various spoilers and character development.

Although CB trumps it on art and music by far.

Cowboy Bebop may have had music of higher taste, but Trigun's music was incredible imo. I thought it was flawless.

I found Trigun to be a lot better, I dont know, just my opinion. I dont know why, but I felt as though Trigun followed a light storyline as I was watching it. Vash was searching for something important, we just didnt know until more was revealed.
noodleplugerine
Trigun had fantastic music.

Cowboy Bebop had music by Yoko Kanno.

That's the difference.

Anyway, if you hadn't seen the last episodes of Trigun you would think it was terrible, and plotless, identical to Cowboy Bebop.

Go rewatch it and then see what you think tongue.gif

Just looked it up and the Trigun soundtrack was written by Tsuneo Imahori who's actually the guitarist from the seatbelts xD
eternalmetal
So my opinion of Cowboy Bebop being "terrible and plotless" is partially true laugh.gif

Trigun struck me as interesting and funny, as Cowboy Bebop struck me as boring and uneventful. There was nothing to keep my interest, and thats why I stopped watching it. If it was really good, I wouldnt have stopped watching it. It just didnt have the magic that a good anime has imo. To each his own, I didnt like Elfen Lied and you did. Im sure there are different animes that I like that you cant stand, we each have different tastes when it comes to anime.
noodleplugerine
Well we both like Trigun.

And Cowboy Bebop is as close to Trigun as you can get really.
eternalmetal
Well, I am convinced. I have to re-watch it. I tried watching the anime too early in my anime days, when I would have never watched Full Metal Panic! (because of the tiniest bit of mecha), and I wouldnt have watched Death Note (it doesnt have fighting) either.

I just got done watching the first 2 episodes, and it definitely seems like I will enjoy this more than I did the first time I tried to watch it.

Cool biggrin.gif

Im already past where I left off. I burned the cd in May of 2006 (looked at the created time on the DVD just now), and burned 14 thru 26. I left off at episode 14, and am already up to 16. I am definitely enjoying it a lot more than I did the first time. And you are right about the sondtrack, simply outstanding. Im a music fan, and it is definitely fresh and new. And they dont repeat the same thing over and over again.

I still like Trigun a little better. Though I didnt get to the end of Bebop. Give me a few more days, it will be finished then. I go back to school next week, so this is my resting week.

Episode 16 (just started 2 minutes ago) is starting off well, I am definitely interested in the anime now. Thanks for convincing me to reconsider my opinion of this show. I wasnt as well versed with anime and didnt know what I was missing.
sindon007
so far i watched the first episode both english and japanese and i have to say i like the japanese better, some day i'll finish watch it.
eternalmetal
I finally finished it. The lack of a storyline was the only thing that made this anime fall short of being great. I mean, each character had a past, but thats all it was. There was really no point to the entire show at all, and this is definitely what I saw when I first started watching it.

Besides the terrible lack of a storyline, I do not have many other complaints. The music is excellent, the characters were believable and dynamic, the action was good, and the concept was cool. I liked all of the characters, Ed definitely being one of my favorites. But the thing is, is that the lack of a storyline makes you feel less emotional about the characters. I did not feel anything when I saw Spike lying on the stairs in the last episode. If this was an excellent anime, I would have been crying my eyes out. This anime had "mafia tinged western drama" written all over it. But the major flaw it had was that it wasnt sad, or tragic. A failure to connect to the character's emotions is why I dont feel as though this anime deserves the praise it gets. I enjoyed it, but it was definitely not what it could have been. This anime had so much potential, it was so classy and tastfully done.

I mean, say anything you want about Trigun, but I felt emotions when I watched Trigun. I felt for Vash and the people he interacted with. There were very few times in Cowboy Bebop that I actually felt sad for the characters. I dont know if it is just me, or it is the anime, but I just could not connect with the emotional triggers in the anime.

That aside, I enjoyed the bounties, and I enjoyed learning about the lives of the characters from the anime. It was a fun watch, but I would not watch it again (this isnt saying a lot, I almost never re-watch anything). And I also think it is a bit overrated. Im still glad I spent my time revisiting the show, it was definitely enjoyable and tastefully done. I just felt like I was missing out on something that everyone else seemed to be in on. If you guys thought the Ballad of Fallen Angels was gripping and made you emotional, then I envy you.

Enough of my rant, I just wasnt impressed.
noodleplugerine
Love how you say that you're impressed by a list of things then conclude by saying you're not impressed tongue.gif

It has just as little story as Trigun does, but sometimes, simple arcs are more enjoyable than long winding stories.

Just look at SAC, every episode is a world of it's own.
eternalmetal
I am impressed with everything with the anime except the storyline. I just felt like I could not connect, therefore it did not have that indescribable something that all great animes have. Its hard to describe how I feel about this show.

Cowboy Bebop is easily one of the best Animes ever. Its a classic at worst. I watch the entire series at least once a year. The animation is amazing and the fight scenes make some anime look like it should go back to the drawing board. This is the only anime that I can listen to on CD without having to watch the anime at the same time (The music is amazingly well done and different from most animes).

I love this show...the only anime I became emotinally attached to...haha I'm a nerd.
Sixth Kazekage
I think it rules! Cowboy Bebop was definitely one of the greatest animes ever, but it bummed me out like hell when Spike died...
Joe Musashi
I miss the seiries but they killed everyone off too soon

also raven i think hes called the dude with the bird
loooks alot like....sephiroth.....
pancakeman1
The dude with the ravens name is vicious and he is the most kick arse villain in the world. and to say that Cowboy Bebop had no storyline is going to far. Cowboy Bebop had a storyline, it was just a storyline that was scarcely given until the last few episodes of the series. This has got to be my favorite anime I've ever seen. It was very well written and drawn in my opinion. The soundtrack is one of the best I've seen for any anime and the characters were written amazingly well.

Sums it up.

Trigun = cowboy with bad hair, too much violence

Cowboy bebop = Tragic, violent, A BATTLE IN A CHURCH (ballad of fallen angels) possibly one of the most badass fights ever!!

I found trigun to be good, but the story completely bombed... that's why I wasn't interested about 10 episodes in. Watching trigun was like watching a grindhouse movie, no story, and no symbolism, and nothing to be like, "Damn, haven't seen that before!!"

To be honest, cowboy bebop was more realistic in the fact that there wasnt some long drawn out bs fight that lasts forever. Cowboy bebop would lead up to the fight in a much more interesting way especially when viscious kidnaps that girl. Then there was a massive gun fight inside a church that ends up with much bloodshed. Trigun would be blah blah you shouldn't mess with me blah blah die!!

Trigun wasn't even equally or close to being as good as cowboy bebop.. and if you can't even see the artistic values then you are completely dull and aren't really an anime person, you dont care for story, you only care for bloodshed. I mean wtf I watched episodes where that guy would take out like 10-20 people I mean come on!! Spike in CB would fight REALISTIC battles where he would REALISTICLY be wounded and REALISTICLY show how the wounds affected him. Honestly I was amazed trigun battle weren't like DBZ and last 3 episodes... Oh wait DBZ had superhumans whou could do that. Honestly you shouldnt talke about animes you understan you dull twit.
