my theory, some other bird thats like the chicken laid an egg and the egg got mutated and stuff and so a new species[chicken] was born.

Hah I stay up too late thinking about philosophy so I think I figured it out.
When animals evolved (theory of evolution) through natural selection different birds died off leaving only the survivors and their features. So we are left with 2 different birds that mate. These two birds both have similar features to the chicken but are still a step away in evolution from it. Their features mix and the female lays the egg of the first completely chicken chicken-bird. So in theory...the egg came first.
LOL if you don't understand that read up on evolution and maybe it'll make sence. Then again I'm an idiot so idk.

Yeah I know what you are saying but still, if I ask you what came first the egg or the bird would you have an answer for it???

May 7 2005, 04:13 PM
I would say the chicken came first, without the chicken there would be no egg....but then without the egg there would be no chicken.....but if I was god....I would have created the chicken first.

both

they came at the same time

My three point answer:
1. you need a chicken to hatch the egg
2. if the chicken came first how can it mate
3. the chicken & the egg came at the same time so the egg can hatch and mate with the chicken

I think this debate all comes down to religion, actually. I believe in a creation so the chicken came first.

2. if the chicken came first how can it mate
What if there was more then one chicken in the beginning? A rooster AND a hen? That's possible right? 0.0
This is more of a matter between the thories of creation and evolution. This requires much devotion to figure out.

One of my favorite topics, and it seems like the chicken is winning right now though. Okay now to the debate. I believe that the chicken came first because I'm catholic and I believe in divine creation. But let's say the egg came first. Who would be there to give it warmth and nurture it till it hatches? Now if the chicken came first...you get the picture.

The chicken. There would be no egg w/o a chicken but a chicken could have developed as a freak accident of nature to lay eggs therefore starting the whole process.

Evolution theory sais that from inorganic material there evolved a living "thing" (procariotic cel) which in millions and billions of years has evolved in larger creatures (not complexer, but just larger = with more cells). Lets say that pre-birds evolved from reptiles (and reptiles ultimately from the first living "thing"), and that these pre-birds slowly (in millions or billions of years) developped themself in all kinds of birds (like you see them nowadays). This means that also the chicken, like you see them now, has evolved himself slowly from the pre-bird-creatures. If this was done in say 100 steps (trough mutation, selection, survival of the fittest, whatever), from which step could you say that the bird is actually a chicken? Since we cant tell, we also cant say whether the egg or the chicken was first.
Btw if you believe in God, there is also something to say for the egg as the first one (unlike all the pple are suggesti

ng). If youre asking how and egg is going to hatch without warmth (eggs dont need nurturing...). Well you can simply say that hes receiving warmth from God...

hmm, the Egg came first, if you believe in evolution then the other bird laid the egg which was the evolved form off the bird, which later was known as the chicken, if you say the chicken... you believe in god...
Seeing as how it is well near impossible for an egg to jus by some breed of a miracle survive on its own, and when a chick hatches there is no way it would jus b able to take care of itself, I think the chicken came first.

no matter what religon you're in its obvious that the chicken really came first. Frist if your christain God created all the animals, and if you believe in evolution you belive that something evolve into the chicken so its impossible for the egg to come first or even both.

The chicken. im christian and i believe God created animals and not eggs. it'd be totally weird if the earth was filled with eggs.
