I disagree with you. The anime may have been a bit geared for kids, but it wasnt crappy at all. The only bad part was the ending, but it seems like that is how most anime ends. In comparison to the manga, not many people think the anime is as good. To manga people, anime always seems to be second place. I personally enjoyed the funny childish moments of Shaman King and consider it to be one of my favorite anime. The fact that I enjoyed it just as much as teen or R rated anime means that it doesnt suck just because it was G rated. I dont care what the rating is, as long as I enjoy it. And I could care less about your Japanese friend, the internet holds all of this information. And just because hes Japanese doesnt make his opinion more credible or valuable.
Well I'm glad that you have your own opinion and that you don't just take what others tell you... Kudos to you... But your opinion in concern of the matter of what's better between mangas and animes are just as credible or valuable as my friend's; meaning they are either great or sucks...
Now that being said here's a question for you...
Have you read at least 4 of the volumes of the Shaman King Mangas and then Compared them to the Anime?...
I have done both and believe me, I watched the show before the manga was introduced in englsih form and I liked it at first... The problem is, it was as dry as toast... yes there's the comic relief but it wasn't enough to cut it... I then bought the manga as soon as it came out and this was during the show was on the air still and man I was greatly disappointed... Now that's my opinion on both the manga and the anime... Also for your info, I saw some of the manga in Japanese in the internet (because it holds a lot of informtation) and it looks amazing and those were the ones that were never shown on TV the other ending...
If you want an anime that really rocks both in anime and manga (and if you're interested in something funny) try Onepiece...
The show was no where close to being G rated as I mentioned, I'ts called "Exagerating"... I've seen shows that were of this rating and would consider them masterpieces... Therefore don't think that I am just nother biased person who only sees what I want to see in this "one-sided" world... I try to see both in different perspectives... I read and watch... Do you?
Finally:
Back in highschool, in english class, reading novels are a part of the curriculum and during those times a movie of the novel would also be shown in class... Many looked forward to the movie due to the fact that it did not require a lot of effort so sit, watch, listen and reason... In college (and in my own experience), reading is the requirement... movies are to be seen during leisure time as part of the learning experience, but never the source... Apparenly it's more professional that way...
