History:
Hyuuga Hinata is the heir to the main family of the Hyuuga Clan. When she turned three years old her cousin Neji had a cursed seal placed on his forehead. After the seal was placed upon Neji, he grew to resent the main family for that and for what he saw was the unjustified killing of his father by the main family. Neji directed his hatred for the main family against his cousin Hinata. In the third round preliminary matches of the Chuunin Exam, Hinata and Neji were matched against each other. Utilizing the Hyuuga Clan's gentle fist style, Neji and Hinata began to trade blows. Neji's level of skill utilizing the Byakugan bloodline ability outmatched Hinata's and she became injured.

Thinking back to how she had seen Naruto refuse to give up, Hinata tried to become a stronger willed person and leave some of her timidness behind. Saying she wouldn't go back on her words and give up, Hinata began to trade blows with Neji again. Though Neji continued to injure Hinata, she refused to give up. This angered Neji to the point where he was going to strike a killing blow against her. Before he could do so, the Jounin masters watching the match jumped in to stop him. Hinata then collapsed due to the internal injuries she was suffering. Medical attendants took Hinata away but from that point on she was a changed person.

Before the start of the third test of the Chuunin Exam, Hinata had gone to the Genin survival training area. While there Naruto also showed up much to her surprise. Naruto told her he was experiencing some doubts about his abilities. Hinata took the opportunity to tell Naruto to not doubt himself. She let him know she was inspired by his determination and sees herself as more assertive and self-assured than she has been in the past. Hearing her reassuring words, Naruto felt better about his chances and told Hinata to come see his match where he would beat Neji. Then Naruto told Hinata that he thought Hinata was a dark and timid person, but he said he was wrong. Naruto then told her something that stunned and flattered her, he liked people like her. Blushing, Hinata could only stand in shocked surprise as the boy she liked expressed feelings for liking people of her type.

As the years passed, Hinata began to further push her limits and abilities and attained the rank of Chuunin. When Naruto finally returned to the village, she was embarrassed and stunned. Though she had grown in a lot of ways, her bashful crush on Naruto remained.

I think even though Neji seems stronger in the end Hinata will be seen as the rightful heir

i doubt Hinata would be as strong as Neji,Neji is a genius and hes older than Hinata,even though Neji isn't in the main branch, he is very powerfull,Hinata is in the main branch but shes not as strong.

Neji's stronger now but eventually hinata will become up to par with neji's skill but will be able hold her own against him

i also think hinata holds back due to her kind heartiness. if she go a bit mean THEN she can beat niji

hinata is so cool and sexy in the shipuuden season... her hair is now longer and she's more matured.... but still i like her being so addicted with naruto..lolz

Although Hinata has a little sister who is more talented than than herself, she is still the true heir of Hyuuga.
That is, until a male baby got born into her main family (if she have a little brother, her brother will be the heir).
But as of right now, the Hyuugas successor may change, since the line between the main family and branch family is no longer effective. Neji could be a candidate for heir, since he keeps training with Hinata's father.
And even the seal on his forehead is now gone, which means he is no longer considered from the branch family. All thanks to Naruto.

That was a filler episode right? The one with the scentbug? Then it can't count as one of her techniques.

About Hanabi being the heiress, is that even possible? I know Heiashi thinks her more capable than Hinata, but can he change the order of succession? Also, can Neji join the main branch? ...::Ultimate Samurai::... makes a great point too.

in the filler ep's, i'm definitely going with neji... being just the member of the branch family, he was able to use the hyuga clan's jutsus in a high potential... being able to use the byakugan very well... mastering the jyuuken 60 strikes and improving it into 100 strikes... also in the neji vs. naruto ep, he was able to use the raiken(is that the name...?) Heiashi was like surprised when he saw neji using it... he was like"wtf?!?!?! he was able to use it" (so maybe hinata and hinabi doesn't know yet how to do that jutsu, but for neji, he was able to do it but not to the highest potential bc neji's raiken is still small compared to that of heiashi, but he was still able to do it >.<)... and also, he was very good in taijutsu which is the reason why hinata lost(and also her arms are short >.<)

as for hinata, i never saw much of her jutsus(only her byakugan)... and we barely see him fighting compared to neji...

now, in the shippuden series, neji barely used his jutsus while fighting kisame and himself(just like a clone)... as for hinata, they haven't shown her fighting yet...

I think over the timeskip Hinata may have become very powerful, I'm hoping that she will suprise everyone with how much she's grown - though we don't see her for a while in the anime.

she has the potential to be as strong as Neji but is too kind hearted. I mean unless she feels like she has to protect Naruto or someone she's close too, might never see her rage totally unleashed

i like hinata furthermore she is my second favorite character of naruto and my first female character in all the animes but it is necessary to be realists neji is the more talented person into the hyuuga clan his father say that and his uncle it he demonstrate it.

about hinata and hanabi is imposible to hanabi to be the heiress because in or the bigger female can be the successor an hiashi never say than that hinata is no longer the heiress he only say "hyuuga doesn't need her a loser below in hability to this 5 years-younger hanabi..." it is cruel right but after it hiashi is more sweet wiht hinata.

Eh, we all know (as much as I don't wanna admit it) that Neji will stay stronger than Hinata, maybe she'll pull of something that will be even better than what Neji can do, but he's still the better fighter. Who knows though, I think that Hinata will stay as the heir to the Hyuuga clan and Neji will still be the "protector" of the clan and maybe Hiashi will do something to unite the two branches together again.
