From time to time i might watch a movie/anime with really bad dubbing perhaps killing a perfectly good movie...so hench I much prefer subs...but yet some of my idiot friends seem to think that voice is better than no voice whereas. I would rather just go through the "bother" of reading it and understanding it =p.
Anyway question is what do you think?

It depends on the anime, some are good with dub, some are good with sub.
Take Naruto and Inuyasha for an example. The dubbed Inuyasha is waaaay better than the subbed, and the subbed Naruto is waaay beter than the dubbed.

Subs are good if you enjoy reading and the sound of language. I prefer Subs only because most time dub version lack the voice that defines the character. You know if you have a kid you don't want it to have a deep voice. It's out of character. All thing aside the dub version of Full Metal was good

With NARUTO? The dubbing was so pathetic, it was cancelled in my city's broadcasting station... XD I dunno about anything else, though. I've never really compared anything...
The Fullmetal Alchemist dubs are good, but the subs are just as good too.

In Japanese voice acting though we get female voices for teenage males, or even male adults. Too scary. o_O

if its good, i prefer dubbing. i don't like reading the captions. well more like i don't like HAVING to read the captions; i usually have the captions on all the time because i can't always understand what they're saying.
but you can't say im too lazy to read due to the fact that i almost always read manga over anime.

I prefer subs because I respect directors. You get the original performance as it we overseen by the original director, who was there on the day it was made. A dub is a cheap imitation, where matching the lip sync is more important than the performance of the actor. It also doesn't help that for English speaking people, we speak the most unique language in the world. It's the absolute hardest language to learn because it doesn't follow the same gramatical rules of other languages. For instance, you can dub a Japanese track into French because those languages have similar grammar, but compared to French and Japanese, the rules of grammar are backwards in English, which is why all english dubs sound odd.

I generally prefer sub, since I read moderately fast anyway, and some of the translations (especially manga) is REALLY lame, like from 'element' to 'style' (for me element sounds better, as does jutsu over 'technique'... The subbed inuyasha isn't very effective, though...

I dont know if this really is a debate topic, but I prefer subs. Just so I can pick up on some words and go hey I know something. If the dubs are good(InuYasha) then I will watch them. I do watch the dubbed of Naruto too, because I dont mind his voice that much. Just wait until he goes through puberty and it will be all good.

for me, it's a bit diferent. it depends on which version of the anime i end up watching first. for example, i watch fruits basket dubbed and then watched it in subbed - - & i prefered the dubbed. BUT with inuyasha .. i watched the sub first & then the dubbed - - and so i prefer the sub more. weird eh?

Like a few others have said. It just depends on the anime (also stuff like voice actors, ect.) But I have to say that in most cases, I prefer subbed over dubbed. Like...dubbed Inuyasha is awesome...but dubbed Naruto or One Piece should be shot. -_-"

Okay, i prefer dubbing cuz u dont have to read. But there are exceptions. I dont care watching dubs as long as they dont change the content of the anime or censor the words the char is speaking.
for example naruto it has crappy dubs. Wat up with believe it. Dats not wat dattebayo even means. dattebayo doesnt mean anything. Dats one reason i hate dub.
Another is when they dub, the remove all the adult material. I mean dat ruins the point of it. If japanese kids can handle the violence why cant US kids do. Its all because of parents thinking their child shouldn't watch cartoons with blood. Yet i see that powerpuff girls is more violent than naruto. every eps there is blood from fighting.

I'd more likely prefer the subs than dubbing, but sometimes the subs are so bad that you can't understand them.

The only show I really watch that this applies to is Naruto, but I'd have to go with the subbed show over the dubbed. I think that with subbed shows the voices tend to have that emotion that you just don't seem to get with the dubbed version. The voices just seem to fit the characters and their personalities more than with the dubbed versions.
Plus in the dubbed version they change the words around a lot so that it all fits with the lip movement on screen. That's actually nice to see that they care enough to go to the trouble of rearranging the words to make the show look nicer, but I'd rather listen to the lines as they were originally written.
You can also pick up a couple of words of a different language if you listen often enough to a show in a different language. I know people who have learned a different language just by watching TV.
Then again, it probably depends on the show that you're watching, but in general I think subbed is better than dubbed.

I prefer the subs over the dubs just because it is a more literal translation. When dubbing from one language to another, the timing is all messed up, so they end up changing the meanings to stick with the mouth movement. Subbing just makes more sense. I don't even realize I am reading by now anyways, I even remember the quotes in english with the Japanese actors voice.
Sorry for the redundancy, the post above this was made as I was typing this one

I prefer subs in terms of the content of the anime itself including voicing and editing things like blood and profanity. But having to read the captions is what bugs me. Overall, I like subs better.

Subs are better I think because that's how they were first made, and they probably got the perfect voice for the job the first time. Also, all the emotions and sounds are most likely transmitted better than in a dubbed version.

both are fine, if there's a dubs version then good for me (which i hope is faithful to the translation) but if there's none, im used to reading subs.
if its an anime, i like dubs...
if its hentai, i'd go for subs... (no need to read the subs, jap girl voices are nice to hear...
i wonder how they do the dubbing inside the studio when the scene they're dubbing are bed scenes...)

I prefer subbed episodes and/or movies.
They started showing Naruto in Germany some weeks ago and not only that they cut everything, no sometimes there are even new dialogues. Instead of saying: "I'm going to kill you" they changed the kill to defeat... they don't even use the word death and according to this fact Sasukes family is still alive and he just wants to talk with his brother because they only had a little fight...
They didn't even showed the scene where Haku and Zabuza died. It was changed completly. >.<
Sakuras statement "They're gone." .....
So I'm going to stick with the originals, they're way better than the german ones...
Even though I believe there are some really good dubbed series out there. I really like the german version of Hellsing and the german Inuyasha Movies but only because some fans made up a fan project and helped to dub it so it's way better than the anime.
I wish there would be a fan project for every anime out there.
