Nintendo dropped a bombshell tonight at E3 with details on the next installment of their Smash Brothers series on the Wii.

Several new characters were introduced but the most surprising was, without a doubt, that none other then Solid Snake will join the lineup of fighters.

Then the trailer took an even more surprising turn. The scene shifted to an unidentified installment in Konami's signature Metal Gear Solid series. Its hero, the rough-hewn commando Solid Snake, spoke with his compatriot Otacon via the Codec communicator, a staple of the MGS series. Otacon tells snake he's been invited to join Super Smash Bros., and then asks where he is. Snake says he's on recon, and then the camera pulls back to reveal Snake hiding inside a cardboard box inside the Super Smash Bros. arena. The inside joke elicited thunderous laughter from the crowd. The final title for the Wii game was then revealed--Super Smash Bros. Brawl, due in early 2007.

GameSpot is hosting the trailer if anyone wants to check it out.

Additional characters revealed included:
MetaKnight - Kirby series
Pit - Kid Icarus
Wario - Mario series
and "Zero Suit Samus" a version of Samus without power armor.

The fact that Nintendo is officially allowing non Nintendo based characters into the fray opens a whole new world of possibilities for fighters. Miyamoto admitted that the project isn't very far along right now (the trailer is the only thing they have done so far) so who knows what they will have by the time it is finally completed. It does, however, also confirm that it will not be available as a launch title.

hmmmmmmmmmm.............this sounds very interesting, could someone let me know what develops, and any updates, cause I am really siked about Super smash bro. Thats the only reason why im gettin the Wii for that game, and nothing else.
Crudus Erus
It'll only cost 250$ for Wii, and possibly 40$ for the game. (Let's hope Nintendo does awesomeness and lower their game prices!)

If you have a job, that's like almost nothing if you take out 50$ or so each month til its release.
gamekiller57
uhh actually the actual price for the wii in not known. so i wouldn't be saying that it cost $250 just right away. there is still a chance that it could cost 400(which i doubt). but hey you never know.
Crudus Erus
Hopefully not 400$

At least 300$. Even 350$ o_O
