Description
Ranma Saotome and his father, Genma, show up at the Tendou dojo after a journey to China. There, the two had fallen into cursed springs. Whatever died in those springs is what Ranma and Genma will turn into. Ranma turns into a girl while his father becomes a panda. However the transition only takes place if they come in contact with cold water. And hot water reverses it. But that is only one of Ranma's many problems. His father and Mr. Tendou make a deal that has Ranma and Akane, Mr. Tendo's youngest daughter, both get married so they can take over the family dojo. Until then, they remain engaged and unhappy.

Characters:

Cologne:
Cologne is the great-grandmother of Shampoo. After Shampoo discovered Ranma's secret, she returned to China. After training in the Jusenkyo Springs, Shampoo went back to Japan with her great-grandmother, who is now trying her hardest to make shampoo her great-grandson.


Happosai:
Happosai (a.k.a Happy) is Genma and Soun's old master. After attempting to get rid of their master forever, Genma and Soun were surprised when Happy came back. He is a dirty old man who loves to steal ladies undergarments and torment Ranma by splashing him with cold water to see him as a girl.


Hibiki Ryoga
Hibiki Ryoga. has been a childhood schoolmate of Ranma. Has crush on Tendo Akane. Is a good friend s well as a rival to Ranma. One of his most fatal weak ness is that he has absolutely no sense of direction, therefor always gets lost, even in simple places.


Saotome Genma
Genma is the father of Ranma. He's the master of the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts. On a trip in China, he feld in a cursed spring and now he turn into a panda when he's contact with cold water.


Saotome Ranma (boy)
Ranma Saotome is a 16 year old boy. He trains martial-art, and he and his father, Genma Saotome, were on a training trip to China, to the cursed springs in Jysenkyo. He kicked his father down to Spring of drowned panda, and the, when Genma got up, he was a panda. So Genma kicked Ranma into Spring of drowned girl, so when Ranma gets cold water on him, he becomes a girl, but when he gets hot water, he becomes a boy again. Later, when he and his father goes back to Japan, they are going to Tendo dojo, Genma is friend with Soun Tendo, and Ranma becomes Akane Tendo`s fiancee.


Shampoo
An amazon girl. Also the great grand daughter of Cologne. Fell for Ranma when Ranma has accidentally defeated her in a fight, because it is a rule for an amazon girl to marry to a man who has defeated her in a battle.


Tendo Akane
Akane-san is engaged to Ranma-san. She hates boys, perverts, and anything like that. She secretly likes Ranma-san even though Akane-san doesn't like to admit it. Her two sisters are Nabiki-san and Kasumi-san, and her father is Soun-san. Her father owns the "Anything School of Martial Arts" dojo. Akane-san's mother passed away when Akane-san was at a very young age. She loves martial arts.

She didn't like Ranma-san at first because he is a boy who changes into a girl, Ranma-san saw her naked, and there are so many girls that are in love with Ranma-san as well. Some of the times Akane-san feels jealous of the girls who like Ranma-san, but there are many boys who like her. Through out the episodes Akane-san and Ranma-san get along more and more.


Tendo Kasumi
Kasumi is the older daughter of the Tendo Family. The better way to describe her is to tell that she's the perfect housewife.


Tendo Soun
Soun is the Father of the Tendo Family. His's also the master of the Tendo Dojo.

I saw the first 2 or 3 episodes and it didnt really strike me as being good. Although I was kind of turned off when I heard about the lack of a storyline, as that is one thing that keeps me engaged in good animes.

the anime is not the greatest since its so old, but if you really want a story line you might want to read the manga which is much better!!

Does it even have a storyline? I was under the impression that it didnt. and since I dont read manga, I probably wont do that.

the manga was much better than the anime series and yes there was a storyline. ranma tries to get his normal self back but "obstacles" keep coming his way- mainly all of his supposed wives.

the manga is way better the anime was a bit boring

I liked the anime. The whole plot was about Ranma being engaged to multiple girls by his father. A group of 3 were in competition of sorts for Ranma. Insert some Drama for the next 6 seasons a rivalry between Ranma and Ryoga with Happosai stealing women's undies and you've got a show. Haven't read the manga though, but I will read the ending if they got to the point where Ranma and Akane got married...

I loved the anime. It had a great story and lighthearted tone overall... I always felt bad for Ryoga... one of my fav characters

ranma 1/2 was one of my first anime... the story is weird and hilarious....

I haven't had a chance to watch the manga, I heard is wasn't so good, I seen clips and it did look a bit old but if you've seen case closed or lupin the III then it wouldn't bother you. As far as the manga GENIUS!! It's hilarious interestin story.
