As a Chuunin he was partner with Uchiha Obito and Rin under the Fourth Hokage. Near his 13th birthday Kakashi became a Jounin, much to his teammate Obito's dissatisfaction. Their fateful mission to the Grass Country during wartime resulted in Obito's death, but not before the two young men finally became close friends. The dying Obito had his teammate and medical ninja Rin implant his Sharingan eye into Kakashi, who had lost his eye in battle previously. Kakashi would grieve for Obito as the years passed, to come to terms with the foolishness of his younger days, and speak with his friend about his current life travails. When Kakashi entered his twenties he finally got a Genin team of his own, consisting of Haruno Sakura, Uzumaki Naruto and Uchiha Sasuke, one of the last survivors of the Uchiha clan. As their Jounin master he helped in their development as ninja and as human beings, imparting his experience to his students. Kakashi would pay closer attention to Sasuke, but not unfortunately it was not enough to keep his young protégé from leaving Konoha for Orochimaru. Kakashi would chide himself for not being able to stop Sasuke. As the years passed he would devote himself to training himself even further, pushing his limits far enough to attain the Mangekyou Sharingan.
